One of the most difficult parts of a photoshoot is organising people. More often than not, the people in your business “don’t like to be photographed”. A solution to this is to hire talent to be in your promotional photos, or ask a current client/customer to help you promote their business by being in a few photos.
When looking for talent to be in your photos, consider the following before approaching someone:
- Choose someone/people who fit the description of your ideal client. Knowing who your ideal client is, is the key to targeting your marketing at those who spend the most amout of money with you.
- What age range should they be? Children, teenagers, 20-30 years old, 30-40 years old, retired etc.
- What sort of family life do they have? No children, 2-3 children, family with teenagers, empty-nesters with grown-up children, grandparents etc.
- Would a male or female be best, or one of each?
- Do you need a group friends or just one or two people?
- What attire do they need for the photos? Workwear, corporate uniform, neat casual, location-specific such as swimwear for a swimming pool photoshoot, formalwear etc.
- Do you or your talent need to bring props or accessories for them to use? Beach towel and hat for a swimming pool photoshoot, suitcase for accommodation photoshoot, bicycles for promoting bike trails etc.
- Do they need to have hair and make-up professionally done? If so, will you provide the hair and make-up artist or ask the talent to have it done before they arrive?
On occasions, you might decide to ‘wing it’ and hope that someone who just happens to be at your business when the photographer is there, is your ideal client. Asking them if they are happy to be in some photos might be the solution you need, so don’t hesitate to ask them. You might be pleasantly surprised by their answer!
